Purpose

Do not let fear hold you back!

Over the last 26 days of 2016, I have been trying to catch up with my bible reading plan for 2015. Yes 2015, I only managed to get through 30% of it, so how I am hoping to catch up in 2016 and still get through the 2016 plan is still a mystery. Anywho, over the last few weeks I have been reading the book of 2 Chronicles, I am likely to finalise this 2015 bible reading plan using this book. Today I was reading the story of King Hezekiah; after so many kings who failed to live up to God’s calling over their lives, Hezekiah is refreshingly different. (more…)

The No 1 Thing That Will Hold You Back As A Leader

A couple of months ago, I received the financial report of my former employer. As I went through it, I was in awe of the progress they have made in the one year since I left them. However, somewhere at the back of my mind, I was disappointed at this progress. Somehow I had thought that after I exited, this organisation would collapse and sink into losses. Okay I’ve exaggerated but you get the point. I had done a good job at this my former employer, and so when I left, a very silent part of me had waited for the day I would be able to say, ‘yee I left and the organisation even noticed’! Vanity, I know! But I know we all have such silent thoughts, we are just bright enough to keep them at the very back of our heads. (more…)

Tough lessons from Lapid Leaders

It is 7.30am. Only one of the attendees to the Lapid Leaders seminar is seated and rearing to go. That’s not too bad. We are African timers afterall right? Up until its 830, the official starting time of the seminar, there are only 5 people in the room. 5! This is sad as it gets, where are the 20 something people that had indicated they’d come for the seminar? I want to scream. A give myself a pep talk; perhaps traffic was bad, they will be here in a short while. I check my phone for missed calls several times; perhaps the attendees got lost and are attempting to reach me on my cellphone. But wait, there are no missed calls. Its 845, we are now 7. Time for a corner room discussion with God. (more…)

Send me and I will go

One of things people hardly ever share about this journey to what God calls them into is the impact of this journey on finances. I don’t blame them. In most cases when you reach the Promised Land, you forget where you came from and the hurdles you faced. The excitement of the moment makes it all worth it. So I have committed to write these things as I go along lest I forget. And yes, money is a big challenge; money is a big reason why many people do no step into God’s calling over their lives. And it is actually one of the more valid reasons to keep away from pursuing the call God has over your life. A person has to eat, purpose or no purpose; a purpose has to pay rent, purpose or no purpose; a person has to dress, purpose or no purpose; and all these need money! (more…)

Don’t quit your job!

Ever heard this theory that for you to live out your purpose you must quit your job? Okay if you have not heard the theory, everytime you have a ‘purpose conversation’ with a coach or people living out their purpose, do you feel like they are silently advocating for you to quit your job; they may not say it loudly but the people they interview have quit their jobs and so you feel the pressure to do so as well. You feel its impossible to discover your purpose while at the workplace or settings you currently are in? I have met people from developed nations who feel like they need to visit a third world country to connect with their purpose. (more…)

An aborted vision

Every once in a while God speaks a word that burns at you and you cannot keep it to yourself. This is one of those days. I recently listened to Bill Haybel talk about courageous leadership. You have to listen to this; it is mind boggling; the video is on YouTube. As I listened to this video, I could feel mu mind being freed. I realized that the greatest enemy to every single dream God has ever given me, and I bet you too, has always been my mind. It is amazing that the mind helps us do such great things; build houses, invent computers, set up businesses, run ministries, be great at our workplaces; yet this same mind if allowed will be the same reason we do not step into what God calls us to.
